Merapi Touring

In Java there are two mounts that are called Merapi. The more talked one is in Jogjakarta and the other one is in Banyuwangi East java (located in Ijen Mountain). Here in this article I’d like to talk lil bit about exploring Merapi Jogjakarta, however actually the tour is around Magelang (north word from Jogjakarta) so its automatically north side of Merapi itself. Ok…

In this tour there are two main objects to visit, which are natural objects and building objects. Merbabu-Merapi route (that’s exploring or touring along the route between Merapi and Merbabu mount) is a route that connects Magelang with Surakarta (Solo) through the area between Merapi and Merbabu’s “foot”. This alternative route consist of well tarred road about 60 Km long. Along this road we can meet many tourist spots to visit, like blocks of old Hindu temples from old Mataram kingdom in Km -25 (from Magelang), Merapi Pass (monitoring base) in Km-30, Kedungkayang waterfall in Km-35, and in Km-40 (right on Merapi slope) there is a lil town to take a rest called Selo. From Selo, we can climb up Merapi in 4 hours.

With lava eruption 3-5 times a day, Merapi could be said as the most active volcano in the world. This lava is visible in beautiful sight from 3 places; first, from Pos Pengamatan Merapi Babadan (monitoring base in Babadan); second, from Jurang Jero, and third, from Kaliurang. The last one is one of tourist landmarks of Jogjakarta.

So, Tourists….. Welcome to Merapi tour, have a nice day.
